Retailers can now pass up to 4% of their credit card fee onto shoppers starting today.
A new law, nicknamed a “check out fee” by consumer fees, allows retailers to pass on fee they are charged by credit card companies onto shoppers who pay with a credit card according to WPIX.
The fees have been paid by businesses large and small but now retailers have the option to pass on the cost.
Only credit card customers are affected by the new law, which is the result of a settlement between retailers and credit card institutions according toCBSNewYork.com.
Retailers must display signs at both the entrance and at the cash register that they are charging the fee.
